On March 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM, The LSTC Gospel choir performed a free concert at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church.
IT WAS A GREAT CONCERT!
The Gospel Choir at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago was established as a multi-cultural/multi -ethnic/multi-denominational community choir that exemplifies the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. of peoples of every color bonded together in the unity of God's love. In 1987,
Ms.Patricia Bartley, its founder and registrar for the seminary, invited a group of students and staff to join together in song to honor Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. for a worship service in 1988. Afterwards,Ms. Bartley made an open invitation to anyone in the seminary community to join the fellowship and fun.
Over the years, the choir members have represented staff and students from every degree program of the seminary, as well as, staff and students from other Hyde Park seminaries and singers from the greater Chicago-land area.
The choir has sung for churches of all denominations around the Chicago-land area, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. It has participated in services for the Hyde Park Interfaith Community, synods, city festivals including the City of Chicago Gospel Music Fest (summer 2003) where it opened the concert on the Main Stage in Grant Park. The choir also completed three singing tours on the continent of Africa. Tanzania, East Africa in July, 1997 & July, 2000 finally South Africa, July 2003.
The choir recently received an invitation to do a one week singing tour in Sweden in 2012.
